Everton welcomed Newcastle United at Goodison Park earlier tonight as they hoped to secure a positive result in front of their home fans. The Toffees were solid in the first half and managed to get into the half-time break with a goalless scoreline.
Both sides fought tooth and nail in the second half but struggled to break each other down. Allan was shown a red card in the 83rd minute which put the Merseyside outfit at a numerical disadvantage. However, Alex Iwobi scored a dramatic injury-time winner as Everton ended up securing a last-gasp 1-0 win at home.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the clash against the Magpies.
GK: Asmir Begovic – 8/10
The Toffees keeper made a handful of important saves at the back and earned an impressive clean sheet at Goodison Park.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 7/10
Coleman was quite solid when defending inside his half and was also lively going forward.
CB: Mason Holgate – 7/10
The English centre-half cleared the danger plenty of times but was a bit untidy with his passing.
CB: Michael Keane – 7.5/10
Keane won a lot of aerial duels during the game and performed well enough to keep the Magpies at bay during the 90 minutes.

LB: Ben Godfrey – 6.5/10
He cleared the danger when needed but struggled to influence the game in the final third.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 6.5/10
Doucoure anchored the midfield well but should have offered more going forward.
CM: Allan – 6.5/10
He got stuck in with a lot of solid tackles but let his teammates down by getting sent off for a poor challenge in the 83rd minute.
RW: Alex Iwobi – 7.5/10
Iwobi got stuck in with some solid tackles and deserves a lot of credit for netting the winning goal with a low strike in the dying embers of the contest.
CAM: Anthony Gordon – 7/10
He had some bright moments in the opponent’s half and even worked hard off the ball.
LW: Demarai Gray – 6.5/10
Gray showed some promise at times but never looked like he would score tonight.
ST: Richarlison – 6/10
The Brazilian talent made one good run with the ball but failed to threaten the Newcastle goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Dominic Calvert-Lewin – 7/10
He picked up an assist for setting up Iwobi’s match-winner.
CM: Andre Gomes – N/A
Gomes didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
CAM: Andros Townsend – N/A
He came on for the final few minutes of the game.
