Tottenham Hotspur locked horns with Manchester United at Old Trafford earlier this evening as they looked to earn maximum points on the road and gain some ground in the Premier League’s top-four race. Spurs made a poor start to the game as they conceded the opening goal in the 12th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo scored with a great strike from long range. However, Harry Kane equalised for the North London outfit from the penalty spot in the 35th minute. Just three minutes later, Ronaldo scored again from close range which meant that Antonio Conte’s men trailed 2-1 at half-time.
Harry Maguire scored an unfortunate own goal for Man United in the 72nd minute which made things level on the night. However, Spurs conceded another goal just nine minutes later when Ronaldo completed his hattrick with an excellent header. The London club ended up suffering a poor 3-2 loss away from home.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 6/10
The French keeper made a few solid saves at the back but will be disappointed after conceding three times during the 90 minutes.
CB: Cristian Romero – 6/10
He made some crunching tackles and created one good chance in the final third. However, Romero was at fault for not marking Ronaldo closely in the lead-up to his match-winning header in the 81st minute.
CB: Eric Dier – 5.5/10
The English defender looked shaky at the back for most of the game and won’t be pleased after allowing three goals this evening. However, Dier was at least strong in the air.
CB: Ben Davies – 5/10
Davies was caught ball-watching at times and produced a disjointed display on the defensive end of the field.
RM: Matt Doherty – 6/10
He made a couple of important defensive contributions but offered very little in the final third.
CM: Rodrigo Bentancur – 7/10
The talented midfielder tried his best to protect his backline and engineered a few decent chances in the final third.
CM: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 7/10
Hojbjerg anchored the midfield with conviction and made some decent runs with the ball going forward.
LM: Sergio Reguilon – 6.5/10
The Spaniard did his fair share of defending and got himself into some dangerous areas in the attacking end of the field. However, he lacked the cutting edge inside the Man United penalty area.
RW: Dejan Kulusevski – 6.5/10
He interchanged possession with his teammates quite well and made two good chances in the final third.
LW: Heung-min Son – 6.5/10
The South Korea international made some dangerous runs with the ball but lacked quality in front of the opponent’s goal.
ST: Harry Kane – 7/10
Kane had a few bright moments in the final third and deserves credit for scoring his penalty in the first half.
Substitutes:
RW: Lucas Moura – 6/10
He added some pace to Conte’s attack.
LW: Steven Bergwijn – N/A
Bergwijn hardly had any time to make an impact.
CM: Harry Winks – N/A
He didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
