Manchester City could lose Ilkay Gundogan for a ‘Long long time’ after the midfielder suffered a severe knee injury against Watford.
City came out with an inspired performance after the 4-2 defeat in the hand of Leicester City, as they defeated Watford 2-0 with goals from Pablo Zabaleta and David Silva but their celebration got marred by an injury to Gundogan.
The midfielder clashed with the Hornets player Nordin Amrabat and seemed to be in acute pain. He later tried to continue but Pep Guardiola took no chances and brought Fernando on by taking him off.
Gundogan was absent for a brief period as he had to undergo a surgery after dislocating his knee while playing for Borussia Dortmund which also proved costly for him as he was omitted from the Germany squad for the EURO 2016.
Guardiola expressed his concern over the severity of his injury, “I’m so, so sad and unhappy for what happened to Ilkay Gundogan. We’re going to miss him I think for a long time, it is the worst news from the day.
“The doctor supposes yes but we will know tomorrow. I think so.
“Tomorrow we will know exactly the diagnosis. It looks like it will not be good. He is sad, so sad.”
