In a recent report, Jeunes Footeux claimed that Aston Villa have identified Olympique Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara as a priority target. It has been revealed that the Villans could face competition for a whole host of clubs in pursuit of the French talent.
Kamara’s Impressive Season In French Football
Kamara is having a solid campaign at Marseille after producing a run of dominant displays at the heart of their backline. The 22-year-old has featured in 31 matches for the French outfit this season, netting one goal in the process on all fronts.
The talented midfield ace has given a good account of himself by averaging 1.7 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 1.1 clearances and 0.8 key passes per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass success rate of 89.8% in league football (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kamara Add To Aston Villa Boss Steven Gerrard’s Side?
Kamara is a tough-tacking midfielder who can sense the danger quickly to earn the ball back for his team at the centre of the park. The Frenchman doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot and can offer decent protection for his teammates on the defensive end of the field.
Kamara is primarily a holding midfielder but can even fill in as a centre-back when needed. He is also proficient at playing his way out from midfield and can create some promising chances for others around him in the opponent’s half.
At the moment, the Villans can definitely use a player of Kamara’s skillset to bolster their midfield this summer. He will add a lot of quality to Steven Gerrard‘s midfield and could help the West Midlands outfit push for a European place in the coming seasons.
At 22, Kamara has got the potential to become one of the best defensive midfielders in European football someday. Hence, Gerrard would be wise to organise a move to bring him to Villa Park when the transfer window commences later this year.
