Chelsea faced off against Liverpool at the Wembley Stadium earlier this evening as they hoped to win and lift the Carabao Cup in front of their traveling supporters. Both teams threw some solid punches but ended up canceling each other out in the first half.
It was a similar story in the second 45 minutes as the Blues ended up being held to a scoreless draw after normal time.
Thomas Tuchel’s men dominated the game in extra time but failed to find the back of the net as the contest went to penalties. Chelsea ended up losing the shootout by an 11-10 scoreline as Kepa Arrizabalaga missed his penalty with the last kick of the game.
Let’s take a look at how each Chelsea player performed during the match against the Reds.
GK: Edouard Mendy – 8.5/10
The Senegalese keeper kept his side in the game at times with his excellent shot-stopping. However, Thomas Tuchel decided to replace him for the penalty shootout.
CB: Trevoh Chalobah – 8/10
He had a good game at the back and did his best to cope with Luis Dias’ pace out on the wide areas.
CB: Thiago Silva – 8.5/10
The Brazilian centre-back anchored his penalty area with conviction and did enough to keep a clean sheet during the 120 minutes. He also scored his penalty in the shootout.
CB: Antonio Rudiger – 8/10
The German talent cleared the danger when required and converted his penalty as well.

RM: Cesar Azpilicueta – 6.5/10
The Spaniard worked hard to help his teammates out on the defensive end of the field. He came off with an injury in the 56th minute.
CM: N’Golo Kante – 7.5/10
Kante was full of energy and running at the centre of the park and used his experience well to help Chelsea dominate the game in extra time.
CM: Mateo Kovacic – 7/10
He ran his socks off in midfield and was taken off in the 105th minute.
LM: Marcos Alonso – 8/10
Alonso gave a good account of himself when defending Mohamed Salah inside his half. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
RAM: Mason Mount – 6/10
He wasted two glorious chances to score. Mount ran out of gas and got substituted in the 73rd minute.
LAM: Christian Pulisic – 6/10
Pulisic had a few bright moments in the game but didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
ST: Kai Havertz – 8/10
The German sensation created some decent chances for others around him but failed to find the back of the net over the 120 minutes.

RM: Reece James – 7/10
James grew stronger after coming off the bench but deserves credit for scoring his penalty in the shootout.
RAM: Timo Werner – 7/10
He caused a lot of problems for the Liverpool defenders in extra time.
ST: Romelu Lukaku – 7/10
Lukaku had a goal chalked off in extra time but converted his penalty in the shoutout.
CM: Jorginho – 7/10
He came on to successfully score his penalty.
GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5/10
The Spanish keeper failed to save any of Liverpool’s penalties in the shootout and missed his own spot-kick which dashed Chelsea’s hopes of winning the Carabao Cup.
