In a recent report, Bild (subscription required) mentioned that Manchester City are prepared to offer a lucrative contract to Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland in the summer. It is believed that the Mancunian giants are planning to match the Norway international’s release clause so that they can lure him to the Etihad Stadium at the end of this campaign.
Haaland’s Excellent Goal-Scoring Record At Signal Iduna Park
Haaland is having another impressive season in German football as he has continued to bang in the goals at a high rate over the past six months. The 21-year-old has registered 23 goals and six assists in 20 matches for the German outfit during this campaign across all competitions.
Haaland has led the line well for Dortmund based on his average of 4.1 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. However, he needs to improve his link-up play in the final third after making 69.9% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).
Is Haaland The Right Fit For Manchester City?
Haaland has proven himself to be a natural finisher in front of the opposition goal. He excels at getting a few shots in on-target and can even create some intelligent runs with the ball in behind the opponent’s backline. The Norwegian sensation is a good header of the ball and has established himself as a consistent goal-scorer in European football. Standing at 1.94m, he is a towering presence in the attacking end of the field and has got a very bright future at the highest level.
At the moment, Man City are in dire need of a quality centre-forward. Thus, Haaland fits the bill perfectly as he will add plenty of goals to Pep Guardiola‘s attack.
The Norway international is already good enough to help the Mancunian giants maintain their stranglehold in Premier League football and also challenge for the UEFA Champions League trophy in the coming seasons. All in all, Haaland will be a great fit for the Premier League leaders even though the player might not be the best option for Guardiola’s style of possession-based football at the Etihad Stadium.
