In a recent tweet, Radio Marca’s Ramon Alvarez de Mon claimed that Chelsea are in talks to land their former star Eden Hazard on loan from Real Madrid this summer. It is understood that the Blues are showing interest in sealing a loan move for the Belgian international at the end of this season.
Hazard’s Unimpressive Season In Spanish Football
Hazard has endured another tough campaign at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium after struggling to find consistency in terms of his end-product in the final third. The ex-Lille talent has only managed to score one goal and secure two assists in 22 appearances for the Madrid giants this season on all fronts.
The 31-year-old has seen most of his playing opportunities come off the bench but has done well to average 0.7 shots, 1.5 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball as he has completed 91% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Should Chelsea Bring Hazard Back To Stamford Bridge?
Hazard has still got the vision to create some decent chances for others around him and can complete some promising dribbles with the ball out on the wide areas. However, the goals and assists seem to have dried up for the experienced Belgian international. He has also been prone to many injuries at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium in recent seasons.
However, a loan return to Chelsea could do Hazard’s confidence a world of good. Having said that, there are some concerns over whether he is still good enough to cope with the physical nature and high intensity of English football.
Thomas Tuchel needs to add more firepower to his attack because of Romelu Lukaku’s disappointing spell at the West London club this season. Hence, the Blues simply cannot afford to make a similar mistake by bringing another one of their former stars in Hazard back to the English capital this summer. With all things considered, Tuchel would be better off opting for a more reliable option than the Real Madrid flop in the off-season.
