Recently on Calciomercato.it’s Twitch channel (via SportsWitness), Italian journalist Fabrizio Biasin claimed that Manchester City are potential suitors for Torino centre-back Gleison Bremer in the upcoming transfer window as Pep Guardiola looks set to add to his defensive options.
“Bayern Munich on Bremer? I wouldn’t be surprised if there were PSG and Manchester City as well,” Biasin said.
“We are talking about a defender who plays at a sensational level. He stopped all the attackers he faced, he is a modern defender.”
“Inter, Juve and Milan have set their sights on him, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he went abroad for really very important figures.”
Bremer penned down a new contract with the Turin club at the beginning of the month; however, his impressive performances in Serie A have kept him on the radar of several top European clubs.
Bremer’s 2021/22 Season In Numbers
Bremer signed for Torino from Brazilian club Atletico Mineiro in the summer of 2018 for a fee in the region of £5 million. Over the course of the last three years, the 24-year-old has made 88 Serie A appearances, and it would be an understatement to say that he has now developed into one of the stars of the league.
The highly-rated central defender has managed to put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board this term – averaging 1.4 tackles, 3.5 tackles, 3.6 clearances, 0.7 blocks, and 2.6 long balls per 90 minutes in the Italian top-flight. Furthermore, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.22, he has been one of the standout performers of his side till now.
Reporter Camilo Forte has told Tuttomercatoweb that he was impressed with the Brazilian’s performance against Juventus on Friday.
“The Brazilian has been expressing himself at a very high level for some time now,” said Forte.
“On Friday he stopped Vlahovic, but in recent seasons he had also cancelled champions of the calibre of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lukaku.”
“On the pitch he did very well, I think in his future there is England: I see him in one of the big names in the Premier League, on his trail there are Liverpool, Tottenham and both Manchester teams. And they are right to follow him closely, for me Bremer is currently the strongest defender in Europe.”
Should Guardiola Go In For Him?
Aged 24, Bremer would be an exciting addition to the current Manchester City squad. Given the presence of stars like John Stones, Ruben Dias, and Aymeric Laporte, Bremer might not be an immediate starter at the club, but with time on his side, that shouldn’t be an issue.
Hence, Pep Guardiola should try and secure his signature in the summer.
