In a recent interview with Football Italia, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho revealed that he is still dreaming of playing for Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola. The Italy international said,
“I wasn’t supposed to come to Chelsea.
“I was supposed to have arrived at another club. Another English club.
“And then it happened as it happened and I arrived at Chelsea. So with Chelsea everything happened very fast.
“When I saw their offer, I was already in London and I said ‘let’s go’.”
Jorginho’s Impressive Season At West London So Far
Jorginho is having another solid campaign at Stamford Bridge after putting in a series of dominant displays at the centre of Thomas Tuchel’s midfield. The 30-year-old has banged in nine goals and secured one assist in 32 matches for Chelsea this season across all fronts.
The 42-time Italy international has anchored the midfield relatively well as he is averaging 2.2 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.7 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been excellent with his ball distribution based on his pass completion rate of 88.3% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
Should Manchester City Launch A Move For Jorginho?
Jorginho is a solid tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back at the centre of the park. He can even drop deep to clear the danger when needed and is proficient at setting up some decent chances in the final third.
The 42-time Italy international is good at converting penalties and can keep possession moving with conviction in midfield.
Jorginho could add a lot of quality to Pep Guardiola‘s attack if Man City can figure out a way to get a deal done for him during the summer transfer period. The Chelsea star wants to play under Guardiola which could give the Mancunian giants an edge in the race to land him in the future. With Jorginho’s current deal set to expire in the summer of 2023, Guardiola would be wise to orchestrate a cut-price move to bring him to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.
