According to a recent report by The Sun, Newcastle United are reportedly lining up a £45 million bid to sign the Crystal Palace winger Eberechi Eze in the summer transfer window. Reports say that Newcastle United offered Crystal Palace £5 million to sign the 23 year-old on loan in the January transfer window with a buy option set at £35 million at the end of the campaign.
The Magpies are believed to have reignited their interest in Eberechi Eze as money doesn’t seem to be an issue for them following the club’s takeover by Saudi prince Mohammed bin Salman. Crystal Palace decided not to sell Eze in January as they didn’t want a crucial player gone mid-season, but in the summer, they might be tempted by the money Newcastle offers, which will be more than double what they paid QPR 18 months ago.
Eberechi Eze No Longer A Guranteed Starter At Crystal Palace
The 23-year-old joined from Queens Park Rangers in 2020 and was considered one of the future stars of the Premier League. After an impressive season in the Championship, he was one of the hottest properties in England as Crystal Palace secured his services. Eze also made a name for himself in the first season scoring four goals and providing six assists in 29 league starts from the wing.
Eberechi Eze suffered a nasty Achilles injury in 2021, which kept him out for more than six months. Having recovered from the Achilles injury that kept him sidelined for nearly six months, Eze is now no longer a guaranteed starter at Crystal Palace, having made just five appearances in the league this season so far with only one start.
Odsonne Edouard and Micheal Olise have made an impression under new boss Patrick Viera, and this, in turn, has made it difficult for Eze to come back directly into the starting XI.
Right Choice For Eddie Howe?
Eddie Howe is reportedly interested in signing players to increase Newcastle United’s attacking depth at the top. Although he has wingers like Allan Saint-Maximin and Ryan Fraser, the quality of attacking players especially in the wings is not great. The likes of Miguel Almiron, Jacob Murphy and Dwight Gayle have failed to impress the Magpies manager as Howe continues to search for attacking recruitments.
Eberechi Eze is a promising young talent who has shown his true form in the 2020-21 season. The youngster is a great dribbler of the ball and has lightning pace to work with. He is also a great free-kick taker. With minutes under his belt, which Newcastle can surely provide, Eberechi Eze could show that he has the potential to improve and be a quality player.
