According to a recent report by the Sun, Manchester United are considering a move for Everton star striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the summer transfer window. There is no doubt that the Red Devils have prioritized signing a striker in the summer and it is believed that Calvert-Lewin is one of the few names in Ralph Rangnick’s list ahead of the 2022/23 season. Manchester United are in short of attacking players with the likes of Anthony Martial moving out on loan, Mason Greenwood out due to disciplinary actions and Edinson Cavani entering into the final six months of his contract, hence a summer move for a striker looks more likely now.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin The Main Man At Everton
Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been the main man for the Toffees in the last couple of seasons showing his goal-scoring abilities in the Premier League. The English striker has scored 29 goals in the past two seasons leading the line for Everton. The 24-year-old is enduring an injury-riddled 2021/22 season which has seen him make only 6 appearances in the league. His impact has been clearly visible on the team this season as the Toffees are struggling at 16th place in the league table.
Calvert-Lewin has scored three times in his 6 appearances this season and his past performances indicate that he is still one of the best strikers in the Premier League. It is believed that to lure the striker away from Merseyside, the Red Devils will have to pay a hefty fee to avoid competition from other top clubs in the league such as Arsenal who are also believed to be in the mix to buy the striker.
Can Everton Afford To Lose Dominic Calvert-Lewin?
Everton have clearly struggled to maintain their form of the last couple of seasons without the availability of the English striker this season. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is an immensely talented striker who has the technical ability to be a ruthless finisher in front of the goal. He is terrific in the air and can easily bully defenders in the box with his big presence. He also has terrific pace to make runs in behind the opponent defence which makes him very difficult to defend.
Losing Calvert-Lewin in the summer will also mean that his partnership with Richarlison up front will be broken which had brought success to the Merseyside club recently. To replace a striker who has such productivity will be a huge task for the Toffees especially after this season when they have been in the bottom four in the league table after more than 20 games. Now it remains to be seen what happens in the summer and if the Red Devils can match Everton’s valuation of the striker.
