In a recent interview with Football Insider, Danny Mills offered an update on the future of Leeds United winger Raphinha, who is set to pen a new contract at Elland Road which will also include a release clause. Mills said,
“They are rewarding him for doing well and hoping that he’s going to stay.
“But also they’re protecting their asset with a longer contract and it will have a release clause in it, which could bump up a potential fee.
“It’s standard business. When you’ve got a player who is doing very, very well for you, you reward him.
“It’s not just because they deserve it, it’s to protect your own asset as well.”
Raphinha’s Good Form In English Football This Season
Raphinha is having another impressive campaign with the Whites and has managed to put in a handful of eye-catching performances on the left side of their attack. The 25-year-old has banged in eight goals and provided two assists in 20 matches for the Yorkshire outfit this season across various competitions.
The Brazil international has given a good account of himself by averaging 3.1 shots, 2.1 key passes, 1.2 crosses and 2.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his ball distribution after making 68.1% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Raphinha Set To Sign A New Contract: Big Boost For Leeds United?
Raphinha can use his pace and agility to leave his marker to bite the dust out on the wide areas. He excels at getting to the byline and can cut inside to deliver some inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty box.
The Brazil international is a decent finisher in front of the opposition goal and can engineer a few meaningful openings for his teammates in the final third.
When fit, Raphinha is undeniably one of the first names in Marcelo Bielsa‘s teamsheet. The Brazilian sensation has got what it takes to help the Yorkshire club challenge for European football in the coming seasons. Now that Raphinha is set to pen a new deal, it will no doubt be a big boost for Leeds United and their attempts to keep him at Elland Road for the long run.
