In a recent report, ESPN has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle for Manchester United playmaker Jesse Lingard. It is understood that Spurs could face competition from Newcastle United and West Ham United in pursuit of the England international who is set to become a free agent at the end of this season.
Lingard’s Limited Role At The Theatre Of Dreams This Season
Lingard has struggled to make himself a regular first-team starter at Old Trafford this season which has seen his confidence go down on the pitch. The 29-year-old has been involved in 14 matches for Man United during this campaign, finding the back of the net twice and providing one assist across all fronts.
The Warrington-born sensation has seen all of his league appearances come off the bench which explains why he is only averaging 0.4 shots, 0.2 key passes and 0.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he has even been excellent when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half after completing 92.9% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

Is Lingard The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur?
Lingard is an exciting dribbler with the ball and can make some dangerous runs towards the opposition penalty area. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the final third and can bang in a few important goals for his team when he is playing regularly on the field.
Spurs can definitely use someone of Lingard’s quality as he will bring a lot of goals and creativity to Antonio Conte‘s attack. At 29, he has still got a few good years left in him to play at a high level and is versatile enough to play in any position across the frontline.
Hence, Tottenham should prioritize on making an attempt to bring Lingard to North London when the transfer window commences in the summer. The fact that the 32-time England international will be available as a free agent makes him a good fit for Conte to consider at the end of this campaign.
