In a recent report, ABC stated that Real Madrid are hoping to re-sign Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon in the summer. It is understood that Los Blancos are planning to bring the Spanish defender back to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium at the end of this campaign.
Reguilon’s Encouraging Campaign At The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Reguilon is experiencing a decent season at the North London club as he has managed to put in a few impressive displays for them on the left flank. The 25-year-old has taken part in 22 matches for Spurs this season, scoring one goal and providing three assists in the process across all competitions.
The Spanish full-back has caught the eye by averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.7 clearances, 0.7 shots, 1.2 key passes, 1.2 crosses and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing it from the left flank based on his pass success rate of 78.4% in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Real Madrid Bring Reguilon Back This Summer?
Reguilon has been a solid presence on the defensive end of the field as he can time his tackles well to earn the ball back for his side and is not afraid to put his foot through the ball when needed. The six-time Spain international is a great crosser of the ball and can contribute by picking up his fair share of assists from the left-back position. However, Reguilon needs to be a bit more decisive in the final third if he wants to taste success at the highest level.
At 25, the Madrid-born talent’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a good option for Carlo Ancelotti to consider at the end of this season.
Reguilon has taken some strides towards improving his overall game during his time in England. Therefore, Los Blancos would be wise to bring him back to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium during the summer transfer window. Moreover, he could even serve as a perfect successor to Marcelo, who is entering the last legs of his Real Madrid career.
