In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo revealed that Arsenal would have to pay €90m for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak. It is understood that Sociedad are not planning to budge from their €90m valuation of the player with the Gunners desperate to sign him this month.
Isak’s Impressive Numbers In Spanish Football This Season
The 22-year-old has caught the eye with some of his performances as the spearhead of Imanol Alguacil’s attack. Isak has banged in eight goals and provided two assists in 25 matches for the Spanish side this season across various competitions.
The Swedish marksman has proven his worth as a valuable performer in the final third as he is averaging 2.1 shots, 0.4 key passes and 1.4 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. However, he needs to take care of the ball a bit better when distributing possession up top after completing 72.4% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Give Up His Pursuit Of Isak?
Isak excels at creating space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He has proven himself to be a decent finish in the final third and can also make a few dangerous runs in behind the opponent’s defence. However, the Swedish sensation needs to work on improving his link-up play if he wants to taste success at the highest level. He could benefit from working a bit harder off the ball as well.
Arsenal are in dire need of a new centre-forward as Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are the only two strikers in Mikel Arteta‘s plans for the remainder of this campaign. Hence, Isak would have been a perfect signing for the Gunners this winter.
Now that Real Sociedad are demanding €90m for the player, the North London giants would find it difficult to get a deal done for him before the transfer window slams shut on Monday night. Still, Arteta should not give up his pursuit of the Swedish striker as Sociedad’s value for him might drop in the summer.
