Rangers have roped in Manchester United teenager Amad Diallo on a sensational loan move. However, they are not alone in the hunt as a host of English Championship sides and Serie A outfits have identified the Ivorian as a prime transfer target for the remainder of the campaign.
The 19-year-old attacker joined the youth ranks of Atalanta back in 2015. He eventually made his senior debut in October 2019 and showed the spark in limited first-team opportunities. His talent did not go unnoticed as the Red Devils splashed a staggering €40m (including bonuses) around a year later before striking a long-term deal.
Amad joined United midway through the 2020-21 season and went on to make 8 senior appearances across competitions. He was supposed to leave on loan for regular game-time, but a devastating thigh muscle injury scuppered a loan move to Feyenoord last summer.
Although the youngster returned to full fitness a couple of months later, the growing competition down the wide has restricted his appearance to one game so far this term. New boss Ralf Rangnick has promoted Anthony Elanga to the senior set-up and the emergence of the Swedish prodigy has sent the Ivory Coast international further down the pecking order.
Why It’s A Massive Coup For Rangers
The Gers have appointed Giovanni van Bronckhorst as the new Ibrox chief to emulate Steven Gerrard’s enormous success from the dugout. The Dutchman has sanctioned James Sands’ transfer earlier this winter, but the injury to Hagi highlights the necessity of strengthening the attacking third. Ryan Kent has been irreplaceable on the left and the likes of Fashion Sakala and Scott Wright are only operating as the understudy to the high-flying Englishman.
Wright, meanwhile, has also been deployed on the right, but the young Scotsman could not cement a place due to his lack of consistency and finishing traits. The addition of Amad would inject pace, flair and finesse – something Rangers would require going forward to defend the Premiership title.
