Tottenham Hotspur suffered a 2-0 defeat against their arch rivals Chelsea in this weekend’s Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge. Spurs defended well in the first half to keep Chelsea at bay but couldn’t hold them for much longer in the 2nd half as Hakim Ziyech scored a stunning goal in the 47th minute. Thiago Silva then doubled the scoring in the 55th minute to put the game to bed as Chelsea cruised to a comfortable win.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player fared during the match against the Blues.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 7.5/10
The French goalkeeper made 5 saves in the whole game and kept the hopes alive for Spurs. He was beaten by 2 outstanding goals by Hakim Ziyech and Thiago Silva.
RWB: Matt Doherty – 6.5/10
Doherty went forward a few times and looked dangerous up the pitch but lacked accuracy to provide the final ball.
CB: Japhet Tanganga – 5/10
Tanganga struggled against the pace of Hudson-Odoi as he was easily dribbled past a few times. He got yellow carded in the 37th minute which meant he couldn’t stop Hudson-Odoi’s dribble down the left which ended up being the first goal of the game.
CB: Davinson Sanchez – 6.5/10
The Colombian centre-back looked solid at the back as he won a lot of duels in the defensive third. However, he was poor at building up from the back and made some poor passes.
CB: Eric Dier – 6/10
Dier came back into the starting lineup and didn’t look at his absolute best today. He failed to mark Lukaku a couple of times but didn’t get punished.
LWB: Ben Davies – 6/10
Ben Davies was poor on the ball in this match as he couldn’t make accurate passes going forward. He also struggled defensively to handle Ziyech in that right flank.
CM: Harry Winks – 6.5/10
Winks made a couple of forward runs progressing the ball but was not effective with his passing. He struggled to control the tempo of the game from the middle of the park and lost a lot of duels.
CM: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg – 6.5/10
Hojbjerg lost a lot of 2nd balls in the middle of the park and struggled to create anything from the centre of the pitch.
LW: Ryan Sessegnon – 6/10
Sessegnon was not given any space to work with as he was closed down as soon as he got the ball and hence failed to create any chances.
ST: Harry Kane – 7/10
Harry Kane scored early on in the game but was disallowed for a push inside the penalty box. He dropped deep a lot of times to get hold of the ball and create something but was heavily numbered out.
RW: Steven Bergwijn – 6/10
Bergwijn struggled to use his pace behind the Chelsea defence. He was not offered any space and hardly had a sniff at goal.
Substitutes:
RW: Lucas Moura – 6/10
He came on in the 56th minute but couldn’t influence the game as Conte would have liked.
CM: Oliver Skipp – 6.5/10
Spurs looked a bit more dangerous after Skipp came on but he also couldn’t provide that cutting edge in the final third.
LW: Bryan Gil– NA
He hardly had any time to make an impact.
