In a recent report, The Northern Echo stated that Newcastle United are set to hold talks with Sevilla defender Diego Carlos. It has been claimed that the Magpies want to acquire the services of the Brazilian centre-back as they look to strengthen their defensive options during this winter transfer window.
Carlos’ Solid Season At The Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium
The 28-year-old is experiencing a solid campaign with the Andalusian outfit after putting in a handful of dominant displays for them on the defensive end of the field. Carlos has played in 26 matches for the Spanish side this season, scoring two goals in the process across all competitions.
The Brazilian defensive ace has been a rock at the back as he is averaging 1.1 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 3.5 clearances per game in La Liga. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball from the back, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 88.4% in the Spanish top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Should Newcastle United Get Carlos On Board This Month?
Carlos loves a tackle and can sense the danger quickly to earn possession back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t take too many risks when clearing his lines and can even make some important blocks for his team. The Brazilian centre-half is proficient at playing his way out from the back.
The Sevilla star could prove to be a terrific addition to Newcastle United‘s defence if Eddie Howe can lure him to England before the end of this January transfer window.
At 28, Carlos is playing at his prime and would make an instant impact at St. James’ Park. He will enhance the quality of Howe‘s first XI considerably and could help the Magpies steer clear of the relegation zone in the second half of this campaign.
Carlos will definitely be an upgrade over Fabian Schar who has struggled to prove his worth at the Tyneside club this season. With all things considered, it makes sense for Newcastle to engineer a move to get the Brazilian talent on board this winter.
