In a recent report, Fichajes mentioned that Manchester City are eyeing a move for Barcelona youngster Nico Gonzalez. It is understood that the Mancunian giants have identified the Spanish midfielder as a long-term successor to Fernandinho at the Etihad Stadium and could move in for the player this year.

Nico has managed to break out as a first-team starter at the Catalan club during this campaign and has been responsible for putting in a lot of impressive displays for them at the centre of the park. The 20-year-old has found the back of the net twice and secured one assist in 21 matches for Barca this season in all competitions.
The Spanish whizkid has been a consistent performer at the heart of Xavi’s midfield based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 1.0 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even distributed the ball relatively well after completing 89.7% of his attempted passes in the top tier of Spanish football (stats via whoscored).

Is Nico Gonzalez A Good Option For Manchester City?
Nico can get stuck in with some crunching tackles in midfield and is a very accurate passer of the ball. He has got the eye to play a decisive pass in the opposition half and can make a few energetic runs with the ball from midfield.
The Spanish prospect can even strike the ball with venom and precision from long range. He has added some goals and assists to his game but needs to improve his end-product if he wants to taste success at the highest level.
At 20, Nico is still quite a raw talent and would need time before he can become one of the best players in his position someday. Therefore, Man City boss Pep Guardiola would be wise to bring him to England as he will be a brilliant option for the Mancunian giants in the long run.
Nico is more than capable of filling Fernandinho’s shoes and could serve as an ideal deputy to Rodri at the Etihad Stadium over the next few years.
