In a recent report, The Chronicle claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are among several clubs hoping to land Stade Reims forward Hugo Ekitike. It has been stated that Spurs could face competition from Newcastle United, Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal and West Ham United in pursuit of the French striker.
Ekitike’s Impressive Rise In French Football This Season
The 19-year-old has enjoyed a productive campaign in French football after putting in a run of impressive displays as the focal point of Reims’ attack. Ekitike has participated in 17 league matches for the French outfit this season, netting eight goals and grabbing three assists in all competitions.
The French striker has caught the eye by averaging 1.2 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1. However, he has been a bit sloppy when distributing possession in the final third as he has completed 65.4% of his attempted passes in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
Is Ekitike A Good Option For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Antonio Conte?
Ekitike can use his quickness to get the better of his marker in the attacking end of the field. He has a knack for scoring some important goals for his side. Ekitike is primarily a centre-forward but can also fill in as a wide player on the left flank if needed. Standing at 1.90m, the French attacker can be a real handful for any defender but needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play up top.
Ekitike has got the potential to become a future star in European football, so Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte would do well to lure him to North London this year.
The French youngster will add more firepower to Spurs‘ attack and could offer some much-needed cover for Harry Kane at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. At 19, the future is quite bright for Ekitike as long as he continues to improve himself with each year. Thus, he will be a decent, long-term option for Conte to consider this January or at the end of this campaign.
