Manchester City entertained Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium earlier today as they hoped to collect all three points at home. The Mancunian giants dominated the game in the first 45 minutes but struggled to finish off their chances in the final third as they went into the half-time break with a 0-0 scoreline.
Kevin De Bruyne finally broke the deadlock in the 70th minute with a stunning strike from long range. The contest ended with Man City securing a narrow 1-0 win at the Etihad.
Let’s take a look at how each Man City player performed during the clash against the Blues.
GK: Ederson – 6.5/10
The Brazilian keeper had one save to make in the game and earned an easy clean sheet at home.
RB: Kyle Walker – 7/10
Walker didn’t put a foot wrong at the back and made some energetic runs down the right flank.
CB: John Stones – 7/10
He retained possession well and did enough work defensively to restrict the Blues from scoring today.
CB: Aymeric Laporte – 7/10
Laporte deserves credit for neutralising the threat of Romelu Lukaku during the 90 minutes.
LB: Joao Cancelo – 7/10
He controlled the game with conviction from the back and participated in some neat plays with his teammates.
CM: Bernardo Silva – 7.5/10
The Portuguese winger worked his socks off at the centre of the park and engineered a few meaningful openings for his teammates.
CM: Rodri – 8/10
Rodri anchored the midfield with ease and grace for Man City. He was also quite creative with his passing.
CM: Kevin De Bruyne – 9/10
The Belgian international ran the show for the Mancunian giants in the opposition half and produced a moment of magic in the second half to win the game for his side.
RW: Raheem Sterling – 7.5/10
His pace caused a lot of problems for the Chelsea defenders. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
ST: Phil Foden – 7/10
Foden linked up play well with others around him but was guilty of missing a good chance to score in the second half.
LW: Jack Grealish – 7/10
Grealish made some decent runs with the ball down the left flank but didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
Substitutes:
CM: Ilkay Gundogan – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
ST: Gabriel Jesus – N/A
Jesus came on to run the clock down for Chelsea.
