According to a recent report by Football Insider, West Ham United have approached Aston Villa for the services of central defender Kortney Hause. Kortney Hause’s current deal at Villa Park comes to an end in the summer of 2022, although Villa have the option to trigger a one-year extension. The Hammers currently have a number of centre-backs out injured and therefore are in search of a central defender in the January transfer window to compete on all fronts both in the league and in Europe. Now it remains to be seen if Villa will sell the player off for a generous fee this transfer window or trigger the extension clause in the summer.
Kortney Hause’s Limited Gametime At Villa Park
Kortney Hause joined Aston Villa on loan in January 2019 before making the deal permanent later that year after Hause’s impressive performances. Although after his first season at Villa Park, Hause’s gametime has significantly reduced with him starting only 7 league games in 2020-21. Even this season the story has remained the same with the Englishman having made only 5 appearances in the league for Aston Villa.
Kortney Hause’s contract will be expiring in the summer of 2022 and it is believed that the Englishman is seeking a move away from Villa in search of regular gametime. However, Villa have the option to trigger a one-year extension, but selling the player off for a generous fee right now seems to be a win-win situation for both parties.
Right Choice By Moyes?
Kortney Hause is a tall versatile defender who can play centrally as well as a left full-back when required. Hause is brilliant in the air and is dangerous around the box in dead-ball situations. The Englishman also has great composure in 1v1 situations and also has a great sense of defensive awareness.
The Hammers are currently facing an injury crisis at the back with both Kurt Zouma and Angelo Ogbonna out injured. While Ogbonna is suffering from a long term injury, Zouma will also take time to return and hence defensive reinforcements must be made by David Moyes to compete for the top 4 in the Premier League. Aaron Cresswell’s injury problems have also made it hard for Moyes to replace him in that left full-back position. The option of having Kortney Hause will surely give Moyes several new possibilities to try out at the back which has looked shaky throughout the season.
