According to the latest odds released by Sky Bet (via Birmingham Mail), Aston Villa are the favourites to land Rangers winger Ryan Kent. It is understood that the Villans are 2/1 favourites to secure the signature of the English wide player during this January transfer window.
Kent’s Impressive Form In Scottish Football This Season
Kent has enjoyed a decent run of form for the Glaswegian side during this campaign after performing at a high level on the left side of their attack. The ex-Liverpool talent has participated in 20 matches for Rangers this season, netting two goals and grabbing six assists in multiple competitions.
The English wing wizard has been a joy to watch in the attacking end of the field as he is averaging 2.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 2.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Scottish Premiership. He has even been excellent when interchanging possession in the opposition half based on his pass success rate of 88.3% in the Scottish top tier (stats via whoscored).
Should Aston Villa Get Kent On Board?
Kent boasts electric pace which he can use to get past his marker out on the wide areas. He is a great dribbler with the ball and has got the eye to unlock the opponent’s defence with a killer pass in the final third. Kent is primarily a left-sided winger but can even fill in on the right flank or play down the middle as a secondary striker if required.
The English wide player is not shy of getting a strike in on-target and can chip by scoring and creating his fair share of goals in the attacking end of the pitch. However, there are some concerns over whether he would be able to maintain his high standards in Premier League football if the Villans decide to move in for him this month.
Kent will add some depth to Steven Gerrard’s match-day squad and is good enough to rival Ashley Young, Emiliano Buendia and Anwar El Ghazi for a regular starting spot at Villa Park. Thus, Gerrard would be wise to launch a move to get Kent on board during this winter transfer period.
