The Daily Mail has recently reported that West Ham United are keeping a keen eye on LOSC Lille forward Jonathan David. It is believed that the Hammers have identified the Canadian strikers as a target for this January transfer window.
David’s Impressive Run Of Form In French Football
David has been enjoying a great run of form at the Stade Pierre Mauroy during this campaign as he has scored goals at a high rate while acting as the focal point of Lille’s attack. The 21-year-old has registered 16 goals in 27 matches for the French outfit this season across various competitions.
The Canada international has led the line well for Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side and has done well to average 1.8 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per game in the Ligue 1 and the UEFA Champions League. He has even distributed the ball with conviction after making 79.1% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
Is David The Right Fit For West Ham United?
David can use his quickness and agility to get in behind the opposition backline. He has got a good work rate as he is always willing to run the channels in the opponent’s half. The 24-time Canada international has proven his worth as a brilliant finisher in the attacking end of the field. However, only time will tell whether he can maintain his high standards in Premier League football if West Ham manage to land him this month.
David will bring a lot of goals to David Moyes‘ attacking department and could serve as a perfect competitor for Michail Antonio at the London Stadium. Moreover, the Lille star is good enough to form a lethal attacking partnership with the West Ham frontman when Moyes wants to play with two strikers in the coming seasons.
David’s acquisition might help the Hammers maintain their top-four push in the English top-flight this season. Hence, he will be a good fit for the East London outfit as long as they can get him for a reasonable fee before the January transfer window slams shut.
