According to to a recent report by Sun, Everton are interested to make a move for Burnley attacker Dwight McNeil in the January transfer window. It is believed that Burnley have set a potential £40 million asking price for the 22-year-old which has kept the suitors away. McNeil is reportedly also wanted by the likes of Crystal Palace and Aston Villa but Burnley’s stance on the asking price has kept them at bay till now. Now it remains to be seen if Everton can match the asking price to get his services in as early as the January transfer window.
Dwight McNeil: A Key Player For Burnley
Dwight McNeil has been a key player for Burnley since joining them in 2018. He has grown in stature in the past 3 seasons being one of Sean Dyche’s most important players. However this season the 22-year-old hasn’t been in his true form assisting just once in his 17 appearances in the league, although he still remains a key part of Sean Dyche’s plan starting all the 17 games.
The arrival of Maxwell Cornet has somewhat overshadowed his presence in the side as the Ivorian proved his importance in a short span since signing for the Clarets last summer. This could be an indication that Sean Dyche might be tempted into selling McNeil to raise funds in order to invest in new players. This might be the perfect time to offload him as his valuation might dip if he fails to perform this season.
Right Choice For Benitez?
Dwight McNeil is the kind of player who thrives with the ball at his feet. He has a great eye for passes and can also dribble past defenders with ease in the flanks. As shown in the previous seasons, his crossing is a big strength and Everton can very well get benefited by having good headers of the ball with the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison.
It is believed that the likes of Andros Townsend and Alex Iwobi have still not impressed Rafael Benitez for a guaranteed place in the starting XI. The arrival of McNeil might solve Everton’s creativity issues and the lack of supply in the final third. The £40 million asking price might be a barrier, but the Toffees are expected to negotiate and strike a deal if Burnley agree to sell him.
