Barcelona faced off against RCD Mallorca at the Visit Mallorca Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to secure all three points away from home. The Catalan giants made a solid start to the game and managed to get their noses ahead just before the half-time break when Luuk de Jong scored with a good header. Barca were leading 1-0 at half-time.
Xavi’s men sat on their lead well in the second 45 minutes and secured a narrow 1-0 victory on the road.
Let’s take a look at how each Barca player performed during the clash against Mallorca.
GK: Marc-André ter Stegen – 7/10
The German keeper made a few solid saves at the back and earned an impressive clean sheet during the 90 minutes.
RB: Oscar Mingueza – 8/10
Mingueza created a few decent chances for others around him and made one good run down the right flank. He even performed his defensive duties well and ended the game with an assist to his name for setting up de Jong’s header.
CB: Gerard Pique – 8/10
The Spanish centre-back made multiple clearances inside his half and secured the ball back a couple of times for his side.
CB: Eric Garcia – 7/10
Garcia won a couple of aerial duels and was defensively solid throughout the game.
LB: Ronald Araujo – 7/10
He produced a battling display as a makeshift left-back and performed well to engineer two key chances for his teammates in the final third.
CM: Nico Gonzalez – 6.5/10
Gonzalez helped his teammates out at the back when needed but offered very little in the final third. He got replaced in the 70th minute.
CM: Frenkie de Jong – 7/10
He anchored the midfield really well and was lively in the opposition half. De Jong was even tidy with his passing.
CM: Riqui Puig – 7/10
Puig made a couple of tackles and orchestrated two meaningful opportunities for others around him.
RW: Ilias Akhomach – 7.5/10
He caused all sorts of problems for the Mallorca defenders because of his creativity in the final third.
ST: Luuk de Jong – 8/10
De Jong led the line well for Barca and scored the only goal of the game with his head just before half-time. However, he should have netted a couple more with all the chances he got.
LW: Ferran Jutglà – 6/10
He had a quiet game in the attacking end of the field but worked hard off the ball.
Substitutes:
CM: Álvaro Sanz – 6/10
Sanz injected some energy into Xavi’s midfield.
CB: Clement Lenglet – 6/10
He came on for the final 15 minutes to see out the win.
RW: Estanis Pedrola – 6/10
The 18-year-old struggled to get into the flow of the game.
