Everton returned to action this afternoon as they hosted Brighton & Hove Albion at Goodison Park. They had to bounce back from a miserable run to climb up the league ladder, but the weekend encounter ended in another setback as they endured a 3-2 defeat versus the Seagulls.
Below are the Everton players rated in their defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Jordan Pickford: 6
The England ‘number 1’ had a difficult afternoon as he conceded twice in early minutes. Made a few saves but he could have done little to stop Alexis Mac Allister’s second-half screamer which ensured all three points for the Seagulls.
Jonjoe Kenny: 7.5
Had a decent outing down the wide as he made some overlapping runs, balanced his game between defence and attack, also contributed to Gordon’s second of the afternoon moments before making way for Salomon Rondon.
Ben Godfrey: 7
Was spot on with his tackles, made some timely recoveries and his ball-playing ability helped the Toffees build moves from the back.
Michael Keane: 6
Struggled at times in the heart of the defensive line. His tackling and passing game could have been better, also the English centre-half had tough occasions against Neal Maupay and Leandro Trossard.
Mason Holgate: 6
Won the majority of duels in the defensive third but his positioning and distribution must improve in order to cement a starting status week in week out.
Seamus Coleman: 6.5
Got dispossessed a couple of times and was not always successful with his dribbling attempts down the wide. Offered little going forward as he mostly concentrated on his defensive duties all throughout the tie.
Anthony Gordon: 9
A stunning display from the youngster who fired in twice defying the odds and almost pulled off a hat-trick goal in the closing minutes to snatch a point from this five-goal thriller.
Abdoulaye Doucoure: 6.5
Far from his best as he struggled against Brighton’s swift passing movements in the middle of the park. Tried to dribble past the opponents but he kept on losing possession against the visitors’ pressing football.
Allan: 7
Set it up for Gordon’s first goal, also delivered a resilient display from the deep-lying midfield role. Was taken off in the closing minutes to make way for Andre Gomes.
Demarai Gray: 6.5
Had an attempt denied by Robert Sanchez in Brighton goal. Tried to offer creativity with his pace, cut-insides, link-up play and swift runs.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 6
Returned to action after missing out on months of football due to injury woes. Improved his display after the break with his movements inside the box.
Everton Substitutes VS Brighton & Hove Albion
