West Ham United clashed heads with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier this evening as they hoped to secure all three points in this London derby. The Hammers made a good start to the game and took the lead in the 22nd minute courtesy of Michail Antonio’s goal. Manuel Lanzini doubled West Ham’s advantage with a powerful finish just three minutes later. It was Lanzini who struck again in injury-time when he scored from the penalty box as David Moyes’ men cruised to a 3-0 lead at half-time.
Odsonne Edouard pulled a goal back for Crystal Palace when he found the back of the net from close range in the 83rd minute. Michael Olise made life nervous for the traveling West Ham fans when he got his name on the scoresheet in the 90th minute. However, the Hammers hung on to their narrow advantage and secured a 3-2 win in the derby.
Let’s take a look at how each West Ham player performed during the match against the Eagles.
GK: Łukasz Fabiański – 7/10
The Polish keeper made a few decent saves but will be disappointed after conceding two late goals in the derby.
RB: Vladimír Coufal – 7.5/10
Coufal was a rock at the back as he made numerous clearances to keep the opposition frustrated for most of the game. He made a couple of good runs with the ball as well.
CB: Craig Dawson – 7/10
He was a strong presence in the air and cleared his lines when needed. Dawson even made a good block on the defensive end of the pitch.
CB: Issa Diop – 6/10
Diop was not shy of putting his foot through the ball but was a bit sloppy with his passing.
LB: Ben Johnson – 6.5/10
He got stuck in with some crunching tackles but got substituted at half-time.
CM: Declan Rice – 7.5/10
The English talent anchored the midfield really well and managed to win possession back a few times for his side. He ended the game with an assist to his name.
CM: Tomas Soucek – 7/10
Soucek performed his defensive duties with conviction and had two lively moments in the final third.
RW: Jarrod Bowen – 6.5/10
He was full of energy down the right-wing as usual but didn’t get too many sniffs at goal.
CAM: Manuel Lanzini – 8/10
Lanzini doubled West Ham’s lead with a great finish before going on to put daylight between the two sides when he converted his penalty in the first half injury-time.
LW: Said Benrahma – 7/10
Benrahma caused a few problems for the opposition and has got an assist to show for his efforts.
ST: Michail Antonio – 8/10
The English marksman was quite a nuisance for the Palace centre-backs and deserves credit for giving the Hammers the all-important lead in the 22nd minute.
Substitutes:
LB: Arthur Masuaku – 6.5/10
Masuaku had to do a lot of defending in the second half.
CAM: Nikola Vlasic – 6/10
He struggled to get into the flow of the game.
CM: Mark Noble – N/A
The veteran midfielder hardly had any time to make an impact.
