It was a defensive mistake at last, which led Chelsea to get the three points and go top of the league. West Brom did well for most of the game and were successful in keeping Chelsea’s attacks at the bay. However, McCauley’s defensive error at the left flank opened up a rare chance for Chelsea and Costa took it brilliantly. The Blue Brigade remains at the top of the Premier League at the end of this game week displacing Arsenal who went top temporarily following their 3-1 win over Stoke City.
Here are the Chelsea Player rated in their win over West Brom.
Courtois (8)- Quite unexpectedly, the Belgian was very busy throughout the game. West Brom had looked dangerous all afternoon and Courtois had to stretch his full body to keep balls out at times.
West Brom put in dangerous crosses all afternoon and the Belgian was a composed figure collecting them with assurance.
Azpilicueta (7)- Was quite throughout the game. More so because Moses’ offensive and defensive play has reduced his responsibilities to a large extent.
He was disciplined on his flank, not letting open spaces to be discovered by West Brom players.
David Luiz (8)- He was seen more on the offensive today than in defence. West Brom keeper Forster had to keep out many shots from the Brazilian throughout the game, the intensity of which increased in the second half.
Cahill (7)- Did well in the rotating back three position.
Along with Luiz, he played more in the centre as compared to Azpilicueta and kept the West Brom attack blunt.
Moses (7.5)- He did his duty well but Albion had their defence right on target and Moses was often seen muscled out or losing pace on the counter.
West Brom slowed down the game on every possible chance which broke the rhythm of the players.
Kante (6)- For a player, whose USP is his work rate, he looked highly ineffective except few bursts of runs. But, the French international failed to make any real impact.
