Everton faced off against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park earlier this evening as they looked to come away with something from this Premier League clash. The Toffees were solid in the early stages of the game but conceded the opening goal in the 41st minute when Conor Gallagher scored with a brilliant finish. Rafael Benitez’s men went into the half-time break 1-0 down on the scoreline.
James Tomkins doubled the home side’s advantage in the 62nd minute with a stabbed finish from close range. Salomon Rondon scored a consolation goal for Everton in the 70th minute before Gallagher went on to make the points secure for the Eagles with a great injury-time goal. The Toffees ended up crashing to a 3-1 defeat at Selhurst Park.
Let’s take a look at how each Everton player performed during the clash against the Eagles.
GK: Jordan Pickford – 6/10
The English keeper made a few solid saves but got beat three times during the game.
RB: Seamus Coleman – 6.5/10
He was strong in the air and made a lot of clearances at the back. He fought for the ball well but offered very little in the final third.
CB: Mason Holgate – 6.5/10
Holgate cleared his lines when needed and made a few crunching tackles as well. However, he will be disappointed after letting in three goals during the 90 minutes.
CB: Michael Keane – 6/10
He looked a bit nervy at the back and failed to give a good account of himself on the defensive end of the pitch.
LB: Ben Godfrey – 7/10
The English talent was solid when defending inside his half and made a few decent runs with the ball down the left flank.
CDM: Fabian Delph – 6.5/10
Delph tried his best to provide some defensive cover for his teammates at the back but could last only 57 minutes before he got substituted.
RW: Andros Townsend – 7/10
He worked hard defensively but lacked the cutting edge in the attacking end of the field.
CM: Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5.5/10
Doucoure was poor on the ball and struggled to get a foothold in the game.
CM: Andre Gomes – 6.5/10
The Portuguese midfield ace tried to make things happen with the ball at his feet and caused some problems for the Palace defenders. However, his influence was minimal at the other end of the pitch.
LW: Demarai Gray – 6/10
Gray made a lot of excellent runs with the ball but gave away the ball cheaply in the lead-up to Gallagher’s opening goal.
ST: Richarlison – 5.5/10
He offered very little in the final third and got replaced in the 57th minute.
Substitutes:
ST: Salomon Rondon – 7/10
Rondon came off the bench to score a consolation goal for the Toffees.
ST: Anthony Gordon – 6/10
He had one bright moment in the Palace half.
