Aston Villa faced off against Norwich City at Carrow Road earlier tonight as they focused on picking up all three points on the road. The Villans were solid in the first half and got their noses ahead in the 34th minute when Jacob Ramsey scored with an excellent strike. The West Midlands club protected their lead well and went into the half-time break 1-0 up on the scoreline.
Ollie Watkins finally killed the game off in the 87th minute when he found the back of the net from close range. The Villans ended up coming away with an impressive 2-0 victory from Carrow Road.
Let’s take a look at how each Aston Villa player performed during the match against the Canaries.
GK: Emiliano Martinez – 7.5/10
The Argentine keeper made a few decent saves at the back and earned a well-deserved clean sheet away from home.
RB: Matty Cash – 7.5/10
Cash was solid when defending inside his half and created a couple of decent chances in the Norwich half.
CB: Ezri Konsa – 6.5/10
He kept a good shape at the back and did enough defensively to restrict the opposition from scoring during the 90 minutes.
CB: Tyrone Mings – 7.5/10
Mings made a lot of important clearances on the defensive end of the field. He won the ball back a couple of times and was always willing to step up and run with the ball from the back.
LB: Matt Targett – 7/10
The English left-back got stuck with a few crunching tackles to make life difficult for the Norwich wide players. He was even a threat going forward and made a key chance during the game.
CM: John McGinn – 8/10
McGinn engineered a few meaningful openings for others around him and made two clever runs with the ball. He also offered decent protection for his teammates inside his half.
CM: Douglas Luiz – 7/10
He anchored the midfield with a lot of conviction but offered very little in the final third.
CM: Jacob Ramsey – 8.5/10
Ramsey gave Aston Villa the all-important lead in the 34th minute. He was a constant menace for the Norwich defenders because of his creativity and goal-threat.
RW: Emiliano Buendia – 7/10
He made two decent goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates. He also completed a couple of dribbles down the right flank.
ST: Ollie Watkins – 8.5/10
Watkins set up Ramsey’s opening goal in the first half. He went on to kill the contest off by getting his name on the scoresheet in the 87th minute.
LW: Ashley Young – 6/10
The former Manchester United talent struggled to influence the game in the attacking third and got replaced near the hour mark.
Substitutes:
ST: Danny Ings – 6/10
He hardly got a sniff at goal.
CM: Carney Chukwuemeka – 7/10
Chukwuemeka made an instant impact as he set up Watkins’ goal in the latter stages of the game.
CB: Axel Tuanzebe – N/A
He hardly had any time to influence the game.
