Real Madrid locked horns with Real Sociedad at the Reale Stadium earlier tonight as they hoped to pick up a positive result on the road. Both sides fought tooth and nail in the first 45 minutes but struggled to make the opening breakthrough as they went into the half-time interval with a goalless scoreline.
Los Blancos made a great start to the second half as they took the lead in the 47th minute courtesy of Vinicius Junior’s tidy finish. Luka Jovic doubled Real Madrid’s advantage just ten minutes later with a good header from close range. Carlo Ancelotti’s men defended their lead valiantly and ended up earning an impressive 2-0 in La Liga.
Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the clash against Real Sociedad.
GK: Thibaut Courtois – 6.5/10
The Belgian goalie did not have a save to make in the game and kept a comfortable clean sheet away from home.
RB: Dani Carvajal – 7.5/10
He was strong in the air and maintained a solid shape at the back. Carvajal made just one good chance going forward.
CB: Eder Militao – 8/10
Militao was a commanding presence inside the Madrid penalty box. He made plenty of important clearances and was always willing to get stuck with a few tackles to make life difficult for the home side.
CB: David Alaba – 6.5/10
He cleared his lines when required and was quite tidy when passing the ball out from inside his half.
LB: Ferland Mendy – 7/10
The Frenchman had an up and down game on the defensive end of the field. However, he was quite lively with the ball at his feet.
CM: Luka Modric – 7/10
Modric was bright and inventive in the opposition half but there was no goal or assist for him tonight.
CM: Casemiro – 7/10
The Brazilian midfield ace offered decent protection for his teammates at the back during his time on the field. He got replaced after the hour mark.
CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10
Kroos got stuck in with a couple of tackles and engineered one key chance in the final third.
RW: Rodrygo – 7.5/10
He made a few exciting runs with the ball but didn’t do enough to get himself a goal.
ST: Karim Benzema – 6/10
The French striker made a bright start to the game but had to be substituted in the 16th minute because of a muscle injury.
LW: Vinicius Junior – 8.5/10
The Brazilian wing wizard caused all kinds of headaches for the Real Sociedad defenders and did well to give Los Blancos the all-important lead so early in the second half. He completed some promising dribbles in the opponent’s half and was always willing to have a strike at goal.
Substitutes:
ST: Luka Jovic – 8/10
He set up Vinicius Junior’s goal early in the second half before going on to score himself in the 57th minute.
CM: Eduardo Camavinga – 6/10
Camavinga added more energy to Ancelotti’s midfield.
RW: Marco Asensio – 6/10
He made one good chance after coming off the bench.
