Liverpool clashed heads with Everton at Goodison Park earlier tonight as they focused on securing a positive result in the Merseyside derby. The Reds made an electric start to the contest and took the lead in the ninth minute courtesy of an excellent strike from Jordan Henderson. Mohamed Salah doubled his team’s advantage just ten minutes later when he was through on goal and beat Jordan Pickford with a tidy finish. However, the Toffees gave themselves a lifeline in the 38th minute as Demarai Gray found the back of the net. Jurgen Klopp’s men went into the half-time break 2-1 up on the scoreline.
Mohamed Salah put daylight between the two sides when he scored another outstanding goal in the 64th minute. Diogo Jota put the icing on the cake by adding another goal in the 79th minute as the match finished 4-1 in favour of the Reds.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player performed during the clash against the Toffees.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper made just one save in the game but will be disappointed that he couldn’t save Demarai Gray’s effort in the first half.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 7/10
The English full-back was defensively solid for most of the game and played some excellent passes from the right flank.
CB: Joel Matip – 7/10
The Cameroonian centre-back did well to neutralise Richarlison’s threat. He was a dominant presence at the back and did enough to limit the opposition to just one goal.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 7.5/10
The Dutch talent organised his backline quite well and dealt with the danger when required on the defensive end of the field.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 8/10
The Scottish full-back was a constant threat in the Everton half because of his energetic runs and accurate crosses. He has got two assists to show for his efforts.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 8/10
The Liverpool captain scored the opener with a perfect strike from outside the box. He also ended the game with an assist to his name.
CM: Fabinho – 7.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace anchored the midfield quite well for the Reds and made some important interceptions during the game.
CM: Thiago Alcantara – 6.5/10
He gave away some cheap fouls but linked up play quite well with others around him. Thiago got replaced in the 74th minute.
RW: Mohamed Salah – 9/10
The Egyptian winger scored two wonderful breakaway goals and deserves to be named the man of the match.
ST: Diogo Jota – 8/10
Jota was quiet in the first half but came alive in the second. He did well to find the back of the net from a tight angle in the 79th minute.
LW: Sadio Mane – 7/10
He made two encouraging runs with the ball but was a bit wasteful with his finishing.
Substitutes:
CM: James Milner – 6/10
Milner added some bite and steel to Klopp’s midfield.
CM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – N/A
He didn’t get enough minutes to warrant a rating.
ST: Takumi Minamino – N/A
The Japan international came on to run the clock down.
