Foot Mercato has recently reported that Barcelona are set to rival Bayern Munich for Olympique Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara. It has been stated that the Catalan giants could face competition from the Bavarian outfit as well as several other clubs in pursuit of the French midfield ace.
Kamara’s Impressive Run Of Form At Orange Vélodrome
Kamara is having a decent campaign with Marseille as he has been responsible for performing at a high level for them in French football. The 22-year-old has made 15 appearances for the French club this season, netting one goal across various competitions.
More importantly, Kamara has anchored the midfield with conviction based on his average of 1.4 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.6 clearances, 0.6 shots and 0.8 key passes per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1 and the UEFA Europa League. The 22-year-old has even been excellent when distributing the ball from midfield after making 89.9% of his attempted passes in both those competitions (stats via whoscored).
What Will Kamara Bring To Barcelona?
Kamara loves a tackle in midfield and can time his challenges well to make some solid interceptions at the centre of the park. He doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. The nine-time France Under-21 international is a good passer of the ball as well and can engineer a few clear-cut chances for his teammates up top.
However, the jury is still out on whether he can make a smooth transition to life in Spain. Still, the fact that Kamara would be available as a free agent at the end of this campaign, makes him a great option for Barca to consider next summer.
We can expect Kamara to bring a lot of bite and steel to Xavi‘s midfield. Plus, at 22, the Marseille midfield enforcer has got a very bright future in European football and could serve as a perfect, long-term successor to Sergio Busquets at the Nou Camp. Thus, the Barcelona head coach should try everything in his power to bring him to Catalonia when his contract with Marseille runs out in the summer of 2022.
