Arsenal are aiming to get back to winning ways as they welcome Newcastle United on Saturday. The Gunners’ excellent winning momentum early on this season was recently thwarted by Liverpool last weekend, as the club fell to an embarrassing 4-0 defeat. Mikel Arteta will urge his team to recoup themselves and rekindle their winning momentum, as they look to continue their push for the top four spots.
Newcastle United, meanwhile, started their stint under Eddie Howe with an entertaining 3-3 draw with Brentford. However, they are still at the rock bottom of the Premier League table with just six points on the board. The Magpies are all over the place at the moment, but they are hoping that spirited draw last weekend could give them an added boost, as they look to at least salvage a point against the Gunners.
Talking Tactics
Arsenal
Mikel Arteta is unlikely to shift away from the 4-2-3-1 setup that has worked out well for him so far this campaign. It does offer flexibility to his team, especially in the offensive department as the number ten Alexandre Lacazette can effortlessly slot in alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, forming a situational 4-4-2. The Spaniard, though, will be demanding more attacking and creative output from a team that has lacked productivity upfront.
Newcastle United
As for Newcastle United, their coach Eddie Howe had deployed a 3-4-3 in his first game at St. James’ Park. He is likely to retain the shape, hoping that the back three offers his side more balance in defence, especially with the wingbacks Jacob Murphy and Matt Ritchie dropping into a deeper role during defensive phases.
Team News
Arsenal
Arsenal aren’t missing too many major players due to injury heading into this game aside from Granit Xhaka and Sead Kolasinac. It will give Arteta the privilege of choosing from an almost fully fit squad, with Aubameyang and Lacazette likely to spearhead the frontline. The focus will be on the defensive unit, though, having conceded four goals in the last game.
Newcastle United
Newcastle United, meanwhile, don’t have too many injury worries of their own. Paul Dummett is destined to be out with an injury, but NUFC will be hopeful of having Fabian Schar back into the setup despite his hamstring knock. Howe, though, isn’t expected to make too many changes to his team.
