They intend to sign the FC Porto forward in an attempt to further strengthen their attacking lineup. However, the Reds will have to fork out a hefty €80 million to secure his services, while the reigning English champions Manchester City have also joined the race to sign the winger in January.
Luis Diaz’s Rapid Rise To Prominence
Luiz Diaz has emerged as one of the most in-demand South American players at the moment following his heroics in Copa America. He was Colombia’s star performer in the coveted tournament, notably ending up as the joint top-scorer in the competition alongside Lionel Messi and Gianluca Lapadula.
While Diaz did perform well during his first season at Porto, his performances in Copa America did wonders to his confidence. As a result, the forward has enjoyed a stunning start to the new season, scoring nine goals in just 11 league games so far.
The Colombian has performed well in the Champions League as well, scoring two in four. He notably scored the winner in the home win against AC Milan while his contributions in the league have helped Porto lead the table with 29 points.
A winger by trade, Diaz’s goalscoring numbers are quite impressive and an indicator of his productivity upfront. It has made him an in-demand prospect in Europe and a move to a bigger club could be on the horizon.

Should Liverpool Go For Him?
Boasting phenomenal tenacity, aggression and pace, which are coupled with his productivity in the final third, Luis Diaz has every ingredient to become a star in the Premier League. To that end, he might be a good option for Liverpool.
The Reds are already on the hunt for wingers as they look to add more competition for Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota on the left flank. The Senegalese international will also remain unavailable during the start of the new year due to AFCON, making Diaz a sensible option.
However, the Colombian’s hefty €80 million price-tag is far too much for a player who has only recently started to make waves in European football. While he may still emerge as a star player in the future, it would be a massive gamble for the Reds to spend that much cash on a single player, especially at a time when they also need to add more depth in midfield.
Hence, the Merseyside giants should look for other alternatives in the market, in their quest to shore up their offensive unit in January.
