Simons’ Impressive Rise In French Football
The 18-year-old is a product of Barcelona’s prestigious La Masia academy. However, since joining PSG back in 2019, Simons has failed to make himself a regular starter at Parc des Princes. Even then, he deserves credit for establishing himself as an important member of the French club’s Under-19 side.
The Amsterdam-born talent has made nine appearances for the PSG U-19 side, scoring three goals and picking up four assists in the process thus far. At such a tender age, he has also got two senior appearances to his name which goes to highlight his potential
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Bring Simons Back To The Nou Camp?
Simons has decent pace in his locker and can make some promising runs with the ball in the opponent’s half. He has got the eye to set up a few inviting chances for his teammates in the attacking third of the field and can even score some important goals for his side. The Dutch whizkid is usually quite clever when he is dribbling with the ball towards the opposition penalty box.
At 18, Simons has already begun to show glimpses of his true potential. Therefore, Barca would be wise to bring him back to Catalonia as Xavi is looking to build for the future. Plus, the fact that the Dutch prospect will be available as a free agent makes him an attractive option for the Catalan outfit to pursue next summer.
Simons is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also fill in as a centre-forward if needed. There is no denying that he is a prospect to look out for in the future, so Barcelona will do well to lure him back to the Nou Camp at the end of this campaign.
