According to a report by the Catalan outlet El Nacional, Liverpool are ready to step up their interest to buy Ousmane Dembele on a free transfer next summer. The Reds are also prepared to offer the Barcelona forward a €20 million signing bonus along with an increased salary. Ousmane Dembele is out of contract next summer and it is believed that Barca’s new manager at the helm, Xavi, is still pushing the club to secure the long term services of the 2018 World Cup winner.
Ousmane Dembele’s Career Riddled With Injuries
Since joining Barcelona in 2017, Dembele has spent more time on the sidelines being injured than on the pitch. The Spanish giants bought him to replace Neymar with a huge amount of money but injuries have prevented him to show any signs of his best form for the Blaugranas. After missing the start of the new season in 2020-21 with a knee injury, Dembele has again suffered a hamstring injury after being only 25 minutes on the pitch.
Despite his injuries, Xavi believes that Dembele’s contract is a priority for Barcelona at the moment but as things stand it is more likely that the Frenchman will leave the club at the end of the season with Liverpool interested to bring him in Anfield on a free transfer. The Barca fans are still optimistic that Dembele will sign a contract extension as they believe that they cannot afford to lose another star player for free after Leo Messi.
Right Choice For Klopp?
Liverpool are considering offering an increased salary to Dembele to get his services next season and they believe it will be a similar signing as Diogo Jota who has been an instant hit at Merseyside. With the front 3 of Mohammed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino almost getting into their 30’s now, the fresh legs of the young French forward will help the team have some quality backup.
At Liverpool, Dembele will not have much expectations to play and perform every week with the squad already having quality attackers which might help the young Frenchman gain the much needed fitness without being rushed onto the pitch. Since the transfer won’t cost any fee the risk involved in the deal will also be very less and help both parties achieve new heights.
