Chelsea’s options in the central midfield are really scarce. In fact, except Cesc Fabregas Conte has only the young Loftus-Cheek and Marco van Ginkel as natural central midfielders, who are yet to see playing time in the league.
Although Kante’s tremendous work rate and Matic’s defensive qualities have done the job so far, the Blues noticeably lack creativity in the middle of the park. With the January transfer window coming, filling that will surely be a top priority for Antonio Conte, along with signing a centre-back.
And with the recent news of Ajax midfielder Riechedly Bazoer set to leave the Dutch giants this winter, Chelsea could swoop in. As per Ajax manager, he is quite sure of the midfielder’s current status at the club. In a recent interview, he stated that Bazoer could be moving out this winter. The midfielder was also left out of the squad that face Standard Liege in the Europa League on Thursday.
Peter Bosz told media, “After talks with Riechedly I assume there is a big chance that he is not with this team anymore after the winter break. Against Standard, I want to play young players so they can get used to this international level.”
In the 5 appearances that he got for the club so far, has managed to create two chances and completed 133 passes with a pass accuracy of 90%, of which 57% were forward passes. At just 20, he has already played 51 games for Ajax and is undoubtedly the next big thing in Dutch football.
Many Europeans clubs are known to be admirers of his footballing technique and his sharp eye for finding the perfect pass. His young age makes him a brighter prospect as there is a huge space for improvement.
Whoscored points perfect long shots, inch-perfect passing, dribbling past opponents with ease and discipline as his strengths and tackling a weakness. Although Conte likes midfielders who have the added trait of good defensive skills, Bazoer’s age provides a large window for knowledge and learning.
Fabregas’ contribution was highly felt in the last match. Bazoer has similar ability to pick out passes from deep midfield. Chelsea, however, will have to outbid the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City, if they want to land him at Stamford Bridge.
The Blue brigade are on an eight-match winning streak and although everything looks absolutely fine at the moment, Premier League could bring out the most unique of twists as has been evident in the recent past. So strengthening is imperative.
