In a recent interview (via Birmingham Mail), Dean Smith revealed that Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey is set for a spell on the sidelines. The Villans manager said,
“It looks like a high ankle sprain and it’s disappointing again and, sometimes, things go against you. They certainly seem to be piling up on us at the moment.”
Ramsey’s Solid Run Of Form At Villa Park
The English midfield ace’s injury could take between six weeks and three months to properly heal which will be a bitter pill to swallow for anyone associated with the West Midlands club. Ramsey has been involved in nine matches for the Villans this season, netting one goal in the process across all competitions.
The 20-year-old has caught the eye by averaging 1.4 tackles, 1.2 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He has even been excellent when distributing the ball in the final third, based on his pass completion rate of 86.2% in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).
Ramsey Set For A Spell On The Sidelines: Big Blow For Aston Villa?
Ramsey is a tough-tackling midfielder who can hamper the opposition’s flow in the game at the centre of the park. He can strike the ball with power and precision from long range and can even create some inviting openings for others around him.
The English midfield ace can also pull off a few quick runs towards the opposition penalty box and is a tidy passer of the ball. However, he is still quite inexperienced at the highest level and would need time before he can become a regular starter in top-flight football.
At 20, Ramsey has got a bright future ahead of him at Villa Park. Dean Smith will definitely miss someone of his skillset in the coming weeks after the player successfully established himself as a key member of his Aston Villa‘s squad. All in all, Ramsey’s injury absence will be a massive blow for the Villans as they need all of their in-form players to be fit if they are to turn their fortunes around for the better in the Premier League this season.
