According to the Catalan outlet El Nacional, Marco Asensio is linked with several clubs after not getting regular minutes at Real Madrid. The Spanish international is believed to be unhappy and considering his departure with no lack of interest in him from top clubs in the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A.
Asensio Falling Down The Pecking Order Under Ancelotti
Marco Asensio has fallen down the pecking order at Madrid with Ancelotti at the helm preferring the Brazilian Rodrygo over him. After starting just three games out of 9 in La Liga, the Mallorcan is considering his future to play more regularly at the top level. The Spaniard bagged a hattrick vs Mallorca earlier this season but has failed to cement his spot in the starting XI under Carlo Ancelotti.
He has been in and out of the team due to his inconsistent performances and also because of Rodrygo coming out with flying colours. Although Asensio believes that he is training well and has taken advantage of the minutes he has had on the pitch, it seems that Carlo Ancelotti feels that he is still yet to show his best version for the Whites.
Except for his hattrick vs Mallorca and an assist against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UCL, Asensio has not contributed much to Real’s attack.
Should Real Madrid Let Go Of Asensio
Marco Asensio has been at the club since 2015 and has scored 40 goals since then. He has shown that he can play at a variety of positions across the midfield and attack and has the ability to take on defenders and dribble past them, along with good finishing quality on his left foot. Real Madrid has long struggled to fill that RW position, with Bale getting sidelined due to frequent injuries. But Asensio has shown in glimpses that he can perform when called upon.
But consistency has been a significant issue for the Spaniard in his time at Real Madrid. The level at which the Spanish giants competes and wants to win every trophy each season means they need somebody in that position to contribute with goals and assists consistently. Rodrygo has shown immense promise to Ancelotti in showing that he can consistently be a threat upfront with Benzema and Vinicius Jr to form a formidable attack. With Rodrygo getting injured vs Elche last week, it will be another golden opportunity for Asensio, who is considered to be the favourite to fill the vacancy.
Real can afford to lose Asensio, but the Madrid giants have to make sure that they have someone ready to replace him in the market. Someone who can come in and fill the place, assuming they get a decent amount for the Spaniard. Asensio is still 25, and therefore Real Madrid should look to cash in on him if they are planning for a big money summer move.
