In a recent report, Italian news outlet Calciomercato has reported Bayern Munich’s interest in Liverpool target Youri Tielemans. The Leicester City midfielder is yet to pen a new deal at King Power as he is ‘open to everything’ as told to Sky Sports last month. According to Voetbal24, the Reds have been keen on the Belgian star along with many other European supergiants.
Despite the ongoing contract conundrum, the 24-year-old Red Devils international is ever-present in the Foxes midfield. He has scored and assisted thrice each in 9 league outings so far this season and his incredible impact in the middle of the park gained accolades and applauds.
“His job is to create goals and score goals but he’s proven himself to battle physically in the league. He’s really worked on that aspect of his game. If you look across the board in terms of ideal footballers, being mentally tough, being intelligent, having bravery, having quality, he ticks every one of those boxes.”
Brendan Rodgers heaped praise in a recent interview (as quoted by Liverpool Echo) as he discussed Tielemans’ impact, all-round ability and sheer professionalism in Leicester City colours.
Meanwhile, the player would be eligible to discuss terms with potential suitors and sign the pre-contract agreement ahead of a Bosman transfer. The Bavarians have pulled off similar deals in the recent past and a move for the Foxes ace bears a resemblance to the acquisition of Robert Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka.
Why Liverpool Must Step Up The Chase
Liverpool, on the other hand, opted not to rope in a replacement of Georginio Wijnaldum. Jurgen Klopp promoted Harvey Elliott to the first-team set-up, but a serious ankle injury has ruled him out for months. Thiago Alcantara, Fabinho and James Milner are also undergoing fitness woes and the manager, therefore, is left with skipper Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Curtis Jones as the only available central midfield options.
Although a few of them would be back in action soon, the likes of Milner, Henderson and Thiago need to be replaced in the long run. They are already in their thirties and the profile of Tielemans is exactly what the Reds wish to have at the centre of the pitch. He is only in his mid-twenties and has proved his worth in the top-tier of English football. There is a lot more to come from the Belgian in the forthcoming future and Liverpool must take advantage of his contract situation to restore depth as well as quality prior to the upcoming term.
