Newcastle United will entertain Chelsea at St. James’ Park earlier tonight as they secured a comfortable win at home. The Magpies managed to grind out a 1-1 draw away at Crystal Palace last weekend which will give them some hope of earning a result versus the Blues in front of their home fans.
The Tyneside outfit will set themselves up a 3-5-2 formation and are expected to make a few changes to their first team for this game. Jonjo Shelvey will return from suspension and will be joined by Miguel Almiron in central midfield. However, Joe Willock might have to be content with a place on the bench.
3-5-2 Newcastle United Predicted Lineup To Face Chelsea
Defence
Karl Darlow will feature in between the sticks for the Magpies after he shipped in one goal versus the Eagles in his last league outing. Emil Krafth will play along with Jamaal Lascelles and Ciaran Clark at the back as they focus on keeping the Chelsea attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.
Fabian Schar will be available for selection on the bench as he offers cover for the centre-half spots.
Midfield
Miguel Almiron, Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden will function as the holding midfielders as they try to make life difficult for the Blues at the centre of the park. Matt Ritchie will function as the left-sided wing-back while Javier Manquillo hopes to put on a good show on the right flank. Both of them will have to sit deep and restrict the Chelsea attackers from creating too many chances on the counter.
Joelinton, Joe Willock and Jeff Hendrick will have to settle for a place on the bench as they wait for their opportunity to impress in the second half if needed.
Attack
Allan Saint-Maximin will spearhead the Newcastle attack along with Callum Wilson up top. Wilson scored a great acrobatic goal versus the Eagles last weekend, so he will once again carry most of Newcastle United’s goal-scoring burden in the final third.
Dwight Gayle could once again find himself on the Magpies bench but might come on to influence the game in the latter stages if required.
