Jose Mourinho was very happy to have Eric Bailly back from Injury. Bailly was ruled out for almost two months after injuring his ligament during a 4-0 loss against Chelsea, but featured against Zorya.
The Ivorian defender was supposed to be back late this month but made a quicker than expected recovery and was also in the match day squad against Everton in the Premier League.
In his absence, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones had paired up at the heart of United.
The 22-year old has been United’s pillar in the defence since his arrival from Villarreal in the summer. However, Mourinho has a tough task in the coming weeks as the defender will leave in January to play for his country in the AFCON.
Mourinho emphasised the importance Bailly, “It is important for the team to have more options.
“I think Jones and Rojo are playing amazingly well but they are playing every match in a row.
“Now we have Bailly back but we know we are going to lose him in a few weeks because he goes to the African Cup of Nations. But, in this period of Christmas, where we play every three days, it’s very important to have one more option.”
