According to Daily Mail, Tottenham have joined the race to sign Paul Onuachu. The Lilywhites are looking for options in the offensive department, with the Gent forward being identified as an ideal option. Onuachu, though, is also being courted by a host of other clubs across Europe including Atletico Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and West Ham.
Paul Onuachu’s Rapid Rise To Prominence
Paul Onuachu has been enjoying the time of his life at KRC Genk, having found immense success since joining the Belgian outfit in 2019. The forward has made 84 competitive appearances for the club, scoring a whopping 56 goals. 29 of them came in the Jupiler Pro League last season, making him one of the surprise contenders for the Golden Boot Award that was eventually won by Robert Lewandowski.
Nevertheless, Onuachu has continued his rich vein of form in the ongoing campaign, scoring nine times in ten matches. The Nigerian international is averaging a goal every 81 minutes in the Belgian top-flight this term, making him one of the most lethal marksmen in Europe.
Standing at 6ft 7inches, the former Midjylland star has mesmerised the onlookers with his goalscoring prowess. But his massive frame has given him the vital physical and aerial advantage, essentially making him a useful target-man, who can lead the line with aplomb.
In addition to his physique and productivity, Onuachu offers a lot of work ethic in the final third and can be seen closing down the opposing ball-carriers. It is a valued asset for any modern striker, which is why the Genk star is being courted by some of the top clubs in European football.
How Does He Fit In At Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur‘s intention to sign Paul Onuachu is rather simple. Given Harry Kane’s disappointing start to the campaign, head coach Nuno Espirito Santo is keen on securing the services of a reliable alternative, especially with the Englishman facing an uncertain future at the club.
The forward was heavily linked with a move to Man City in the summer, and although a move did not materialise, he is destined to leave Spurs sooner rather than later. Onuachu, in that regard, could be a useful alternative and perhaps even a replacement for the highly-rated number nine.
The Nigerian international, using his tall frame, could prove to be an ideal plan B for Kane, knowing that he can operate as a target man and just feed on crosses. It is a useful method, especially for a Tottenham side that relies heavily on the counter.
His strength could thus be ideal in the physically astute nature of the Premier League while his ability to sniff goalscoring opportunities brings some much-needed directness about Spurs’ game. And considering Spurs would not have to break the bank for him Onuachu could indeed be a bargain for the Lilywhtites.
