Everton have suffered a massive blow after their new signing Yannick Bolasie damaged his ligament in their last match against Manchester United on Sunday. The DR Congo international signed for Everton from Crystal Palace in a £25m deal in August and has played in every game this season.
With a goal and four assists to his name, the 27-year old is one of the best performing players for Ronald Koeman’s side and his understanding with striker Romelu Lukaku has served the Toffees well in the attacking phase. His injury thus has put Everton on the back foot ahead of the crucial period and with the news of the former Crystal Palace player will remain sidelined for the rest of the season, things have gotten even worse.
Koeman now needs to get a player in January to ensure that the damage is marginalised and let’s take a look at the options which he can go for.
Memphis Depay
The Manchester United winger is all set to leave Old Trafford in the winter and Everton can be his next destination. The prospect of staying in the Premier League and working under his compatriot Ronald Koeman would be very tempting for the player. As for Everton, Depay is a player who possesses immense talent and potential.
Having scored 22 goals for PSV in the Eredivisie before he came to England, the winger can turn out to be a source of regular goals and assists if he can get settled in under the manager and plays according to his potential. Depay can turn out to be an excellent signing.
Jefferson Montero
The Ecuadorian international has got the ability to get past his man and put decent deliveries into the box. His performances of last season against big teams caught the eye of many. This season however, the attacker has been used as a substitute by the club meaning he has played only 228 minutes of Premier League football making 7 appearances.
With Swansea being rock bottom of the league table, the 27-year old can be easily persuaded to leave. Montero can provide the pace and trickery on the wings which Bolasie had offered prior to his injury.
Luciano Narsingh
PSV winger Luciano Narsingh can be a very interesting option for Koeman in the transfer window. With the 26-year old’s contract set to expire at the end of this season, he would be available for a cut-price deal in the winter.
Narsingh has got all the attributes Koeman would be looking for to fill the void left by Bolasie on the wing and the Dutch international, who has 16 caps for his country, would be an excellent addition to the Merseyside club.
