According to Jeunes Footeux, Tottenham are among clubs interested in Roko Simic. The FC Liefering striker is attracting a lot of interest in the market, owing to his performances in the Austrian 2.Liga. Spurs are already scouting the talented forward, joining West Ham, RB Leipzig, Real Madrid and AS Monaco in the list of clubs interested in his services.
Who Is Roko Simic?
Born in Milan, Roko Simic is the son of revered Croatian winger and former AC Milan star Dario Simic. The youngster had started his youth career at Lokomotiva in his native Croatia, before making the switch to RB Salzburg this summer for a fee of €4 million.
Simic was immediately loaned out to FC Liefering in order to help him gain regular game-time. The youngster hasn’t disappointed either, racking up seven goals in ten matches in the Austrian second division so far. He has also been involved in two goals in two matches in the UEFA Youth League this term.
A centre forward by trade, the 18-year-old has impressed the onlookers with his impressive physique and goalscoring abilities. Standing at 1.90m, Simic is a tall striker whose imposing physique gives him a considerable advantage in physical and aerial duels. It is combined with his ability to sniff out goalscoring opportunities, which is why the youngster is being compared to Erling Haaland.
The Borussia Dortmund superstar, after all, had also hailed from RB Salzburg. And it appears Simic could follow the same path, though he is still playing for Liefering and is unlikely to return to Salzburg in mid-season. The fact that he is attracting interest from top European clubs also raises questions over his long-term future in Austria.
A Smart Option For Tottenham?
Tottenham Hotspur are on the hunt for attacking reinforcements as they brace themselves for a potential overhaul in the goalscoring department. Their main forward Harry Kane is likely to leave the club sooner rather than later, with the Lilywhites lacking a reliable alternative other than winger Son Heung-Min.
Roko Simic is not being scouted as a direct replacement for Kane, by any means. But, his performances for Liefering, albeit in the second division of Austrian football, suggests that he does have a lot of potential, especially given the fact that talented stars like Karim Adeyemi and Benjamin Sesko have all had successful spells at Liefering in recent years.
As such, Simic could prove to be a smart investment for Tottenham Hotspur. The young Croatian has the physique required to thrive in the Premier League while his lethal nature in front of goal could potentially make him an ideal target for Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, for the time being, it is perhaps wiser for Tottenham to scout Simic for at least another season. The youngster is likely to become Salzburg’s main forward next season, and the raised expectations and a higher level of football may reveal a lot about the player’s credentials at the top level.
