This will be the third season of Mauricio Pochettino in charge of Spurs. The impact of the Argentine has been evident last season and the impact is likely to get stronger this campaign as the manager works his magic with the Lilywhites. Spurs will definitely start the season as one of the frontrunners for the title and will be keen to put a strong showing in the Champions League on their return to the elite competition in Europe.
The North Londoners have not really made their presence felt in the transfer market so far signing only two players in the form of Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama. Now, they are interested in snapping up Braga’s Rafa Silva according to reports.
The £10m-rated winger has been long admired by Pochettino and could be a shrewd piece of addition to the North London club. Quality does not come cheap these days and getting a player like Silva for just £10m would prove to be a very good bargain.
Rafa Silva, after graduating from the academy of Feirense, was signed by Portuguese giants Braga in 2013 and since then, he has been one of the best players to feature in the Portuguese League. The 23-year-old has featured 123 times for Braga till date and netted 25 goals providing 17 assists.
Silva’s arrival could spark departures from the North London club, especially with Georges-Kevin N’Koudou lined up to sign from Marseille, with Clinton N’Jie moving in the opposite direction. Silva’s addition would put massive pressure on South Korean international Heung-Min Son, who failed to make his strong mark at the club moving in last summer from Leverkusen.
Even with Son failing to grasp chances coming in his way, he is unlikely to be shown the exit door but it will definitely put an end to Nacer Chadli’s stay at the club. The Belgian was on the fringes last season only and with the competition for places intensifying, it will be too much for the 26-year-old.
Silva, who recently won the Euro 2016, is a quick and tricky winger and likes to operate mostly from the left-hand side. The 23-year-old is blessed with very good technique and can set up his teammates with quality deliveries from the flanks. Silva is pretty much a modern-day winger who loves to drift inside and provide quality balls inside.
Just aged 23, Silva would easily slot into the youthful squad of the North London side. For just £10m, Silva would be a great coup from the Lilywhites.
