Calciomercato has recently reported that Newcastle United are locked in a three-way battle for Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi. It is believed that the Magpies could face stiff competition in the form of Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to secure the services of the Argentine forward.
Icardi’s Up And Down Season At The French Capital So Far
The former Barcelona youngster has done well to produce some productive performances as a chief attacker of Mauricio Pochettino’s attack. However, the arrival of Lionel Messi at Paris has seen him lose his first-team privileges at Parc des Princes which could open the door for the Magpies to make an attempt to lure him to the Premier League next year.
Icardi has already netted three goals in ten matches for the Parisian outfit this season in all competitions. Is Icardi A Dream Option For The Magpies?
On his day, Icardi can be a world-class centre-forward as he is a clinical finisher in front of the opponent’s goal. He packs a lot of venom with his shot attempts and is an excellent header of the ball as he has got a great leap in him that allows him to outjump his marker inside the penalty box.
The Argentine sensation has a good football IQ and can get himself into some dangerous areas in the attacking end of the field. He can keep possession ticking quite well in the opposition half and is a good penalty taker as well.
Hence, we can expect Icardi to add plenty of quality to the Tyneside outfit‘s attack. He can be a goal-scoring machine when he is playing regularly on the pitch. Plus, the South American frontman could go on to form a lethal attacking partnership with Callum Wilson at St. James’ Park over the next few years. At 28, Icardi still has plenty of football left in him, so a world-class forward of his skill set will be a dream option for the Magpies next year.
