Recent reports from Italian media outlet Fanta Calcio state that Manchester United are keen on signing Torino defender Gleison Bremer in the upcoming transfer window as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to add to his options at the back.
The 24-year-old’s present contract at Torino runs until 2023; however, he is not expected to extend his stay at Olympic Grande Torino Stadium as he wishes to fight for major silverware.
The report further claimed that Bremer has already conveyed his will to club President Urbano Cairo.
“I want to play a great season in the grenade, but my dream is to play in the Champions League. In the national team I am not taken into consideration because the coaches do not follow a team that does not play the cups and, moreover, they fight to save themselves.” – The translated version of the message read.
Besides Manchester United, Liverpool, Inter, and Juventus are also keeping a close eye on his situation.
Bremer’s Impressive Form In Italy
Having come through the ranks at Desportivo Brasil, Bremer signed for Atletico Mineiro in 2017. After staying for eighteen months at the club, he moved to Torino in July 2018.
Since his arrival in Italy, he has been an integral part of the Torino defence, scoring eleven goals and bagging four assists in 83 appearances across all competitions. Thanks to the Brazilian’s heroics at the heart of Torino’s backline, the Bulls managed to escape relegation by just four points last season.
Even this term, he has put up some awe-inspiring numbers on the board – averaging 1.5 tackles, four interceptions, 1.7 fouls, 3.5 clearances, 0.5 blocks, 2.5 long balls per 90 minutes in the Italian top flight. Furthermore, with an average WhoScored rating of 7.51, he has established himself as one of the best defenders in the league this season.
What Will He Add To Solskjaer’s Side?
Manchester United are pretty sorted in the defensive department at this moment. Raphael Varane has been working wonders ever since his arrival from Real Madrid, whereas Harry Maguire has shown tremendous consistency on numerous occasions to help his side at the back.
Furthermore, Victor Lindelof has done enough to prove that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could depend on him in the hour of need. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones haven’t got too much game time yet, but one can expect them to make rare appearances once the schedule gets tighter.
Aged 24, Gleison Bremer could turn out to be an exciting addition to United’s present squad as it would provide them with quality depth. The same report from Fanta Calcio states that Bremer could be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of €20-25 million, which should not be a concern for Manchester United.
